Mobile analytics

April 24th, 2008 Michiel

We’re happy to announce the availability of several new report items that show you how your site is visited using mobile devices, such as mobile phones.

The new reports show you what pages are visited most, which phone types and brands are used most, what their screensizes are, and how the different phone brands convert towards a given destination page.

We measure all modern mobile phones, even those that do not have Javascript enabled. If you have a mobile site, we recommend that you use the special mobile tracking code with even better accuracy for older phone models. You can find this code in the updated Code Document, in the Support section in Sitestat.

Let us know if you find these reports useful, or if there are things that you miss! We welcome your feedback in the comments.

Well Done! First big web analytics vendor that makes an approach in this direction.

Based on the brand and model you could provide a lot more information, like screen resolution and supported technologies (java, java-script, xhtml, etc.). For many devices this information is available.

Going Mobile will be the most important Analytics criteria in the next years.

Great, that Nedstat did this first and with such a visionary consequence.

@Harald In fact we do that; based on the brand we offer several other metrics including screen resolution, and more to come..

This is all really exciting stuff - but a couple of questions:

    1) Where does your handset data come from? Are you using WURFL or similar?

    2) How are you associating the handset data with the unique visitor? Are you simply using cookies or JavaScript on the mobile device?

    3) Is iPhone really that popular already?

    Thanks.
    John.
